Spent Catalyst Converters & Recovery

Challenge:

We worked on an inquiry from a major global EPCM & integrator who has significant market share in recovery & conversions of catalyst converters globally. Having a wide range of catalyst required the right design of external and internal features of the Knife gate Valves (KGV). While they were building a prototype, we needed a solution to perform over a wider range of products at a modest cost.

Approach:

Our Team @ TRICON worked on design features and were able to source the right quality of KGV to cover the wide range of products and catalyst. Once we established the specifications best suited for the valve function, we were then able to replicate the design features at optimal cost with specialized valve seating and soft goods to augment valve performance.

Solution:

We had re engineered and reworked the design specifications to provide two options to our client. Having fine tuned the design we knew what the best and most preferred option was to deliver the volume flow and minimize wear on the internal walls of the valve. We now also have an additional solution with high wear resistant material to enhance valve life and performance.

Outcome:

A Wafer KGV design best suited to handle the volume flow rate, minimal resistance and design weight factor. The KGVs with CF8M body and metal seat capability to manage the flow of catalyst delivered the right solution at the right price on time so that our client could complete the project on time.
