Challenge:

A Global Client involved in providing integrated solution to the Oil & Gas projects on &offshoreglobally has been sourcing the right solution for Nitrogen Purging. While the valves specifications were indicative from design consultants the challenge was to ensure delivery of a robust solution for this offshore project during COVID 19 and requires minimal intervention in installation commissioning on site.

Approach:

Our Team @ TRICON worked with the Project Managers of the EPCM; and in consultation and engagement with Project Owner we sourced two viable options to meet design criteria. While the easiest and reliable solution involved instrumentation with electrical controller &positioner the practicality of intrinsic safety issues due to site conditions warranted a safer option without electrical instrumentation.

Solution:

Our Team @ TRICON in collaboration with global business partners designed the solution involving rotary ball valve with pressure controller. Further, the fail open and close positions were all programmed and set at factory. To ensure responsiveness we redesigned and modified the bourdon tube and established parameters to commission, set & test at workshop prior to transporting the 300 Kg Valve Unit.

Outcome:

Once we established the approach, we assembled the system, sent videos to client and EPCM to ensure they were satisfied with workshop test results. While the parameters were set, we knew there would be variations during transportation. Despite peak COVID 19 freight restrictions and flight cancellations we air freighted this 300 Kg Valve and controller unit to Perth & to the offshore location. Our Engineers collaborated with EPCM, manufacturer andclient to collaboratively re-establish the required parameters working across wide range in time zones to deliver the solution on time and under budget.
